See Lecturer Has A Diploma Mill Ph.D..
And that's why UC Irvine ain't UC Berkeley. I suspect that Mr. Killackey is not adequately familiar with the hiring practices at his own university.

You know, we often observe the lengths some "graduates" of diploma mills will go to justify their degrees, but we seldom talk about the lengths taken by their employers to stick up for them. Doesn't UCI see the problem here? It isn't the lecturer's professional competency, it's his ethics. He is, in no uncertain terms, untrustworthy. The rationalizations about his degree not being relevant to the postition are idiotic. Lying about your academic credentials as an academecian attacks the very core of what you are.

I'm not saying the guy should be fired, or even suggesting any particular form of punishment. But the school could just as easily say the behavior was wrong and deceptive, that they don't condone it, etc. Instead, they blame the process (too hard to check credentials--can you believe that? ), then say it's no big deal, and then say they can't understand why he did it. They're all over the place on this one, and ought to learn to speak with one voice. Oh, and try to be ethical about it, too.

Makes you wonder what it would take to get the school mad at him. I guess lying about his academic qualifications isn't enough.
