    Hello Everyone,

I just want to know about ABET @ www.abet.org. Most of the Universities and Colleges; they claim themselves that their Master's or Ph.D are accredited by ABET. I check the database of ABET, I found only B.S......and really a small number is Master. For example......George Mason University (www.gmu.edu) says that their graduated degrees are accredited by ABET, but I see only B.S.

Does this mean if you earn Master of Science in Electrical Engineering at George Mason University is ABET or non-ABET?

    Thank you.....

    Tekman,

the ABET link below has a hyperlink to email them regarding their accreditation. You may want to pose your question to them directly.

  3. ABET Requirements

First off... ABET does not accredit any Doctoral programs. As far as the Masters level programs, a school has an option to accredit the masters program with the same general requirements as the undergraduate program plus the requirment for a written project. Also the school must make the decision as to which program they wish to accredit.. it's an either/or propostion. You either do the BS or the MS.. not both. As a result most schools opt for where the enrollment is.. BS. Some schools that run only MS program don't have this problem (National Technological University).

I don't know what George Mason's status is but I will use my status to draw a parallel.. I have a Non-ABET accredited Masters degree from Lehigh University. However the BS graduates in my discipline have ABET accredited BS degrees.

If you explore the ABET website, you will come across the accredidation requirments for the audit and program descriptions.
ABET is a program accrediting agency, not an institutional accreditor.
