While following hits related to philosophy programs, I chanced upon Maryvale Institute
    (http://www.maryvale.ac.uk)
    On their website they state:
Maryvale institute is approved by Open University Validation Services as an appropriate organisation to supervise students and provide research degree programs leading to the awards of MPhil or PhD of the Open University.
I have written to Maryvale and posed a few questions regarding this borrowed accreditation but I thought I'd ask the question here while I awaited their answer . . .
Does this mean that a Maryvale degree is an Open University degree? How is it designated? Maryvale? Open?
I have no reason to believe that this is anything other than a good (but perhaps obscure) degree. Are there any out there who know of this? Thanks,
    Jack

    Hear, o islands! (school's motto)

Jack, this one's a goodie. Yes, the degree is awarded as an Open University degree (MPhil, Open University or PhD,Open University). Maryvale's relationship to OU is exactly parallel to the relationship which formerly existed between SATS and the University of Zululand. Moreover, everything on their website looks well-thought-out and serious. Maybe it's due to my own training done in part in a Roman Catholic university, albeit a foolish and degenerate one, but I've got a lasting admiration for the better sort of Catholic pedagogy. These folks certainly look like that's what's on offer.

Somebody fairly prominent was connected with Maryvale a while back, but I surely cannot recall who it was. No, it wasn't Ronald Knox, the great Bible translator and RC apologist; he was from Birmingham, but not associated particularly with Maryvale.
