I discovered His Excellency while doing Google searches on KU. (I'm a tragic idiot googlant...)

Here's the complete results for references to "Knightsbridge University" on both '.edu' and 'ac.uk' sites. There were ten hits total. Two describe speeches by His Excellency, two refer to what appears to be a KU economics dissertation (that lists Henrick as "senior lecturer in mathematical economics"), two are bios for somebody named Tom Hulse. (That name is familiar. Where have I heard it?) There's that Manchester materials science paper that's been discussed before.

Well, Bill, if you are going to represent one of the finest kleptocracies on the planet, you should have one of the finest degrees money can buy. I mean, how many degrees can you just plain steal from MDC members and white farmers?

Pardon my ignorance on this particular example, but why would one include a degree from Knightsbridge on a resume that includes a degree from Harvard and the London School of Economics?

I can only speculate. Perhaps His Excellency doesn't have a clue what KU is.

My guess is that some of the degrees are honorary, and His Excellency isn't distingishing between them and earned degrees. (It's even conceivable that his only earned degree is the BA from UNISA.)

Here's another example: John Mbiti is a well known author in the field of African religion with an earned doctorate from Cambridge. But I found an introductory text he wrote where the title page has him sporting an honorary degree from the less-than-wonderful Barrington.

My guess is that the less-than-wonderful 'universities' write flattering letters to selected celebrities, telling them how the university has been following their career, respects them tremendously, and would like to award them an honorary degree. The celebrity has never heard of he school, but liking the ego-strokes, says 'sure'. The result can be good advertising for the 'university', particularly if the celebrity is stupid enough to list the degree in CV's and PR materials.

Perhaps the use fo the phrasing, "He acquired several degrees", instead of, "He earned several degrees" is a clue to the means to which they were awarded.

You may be thinking of Tom Hulce (who played Mozart in Amadeus).
