    Dear All,

It's been a while. Just touching base. Will update you later in the coming week/weeks on where my status is.

I have a friend who is about to gain entry to the ESC-LILLE Graduate School of Management (France) - www.esc-lille.com

She wants to know if they are accredited (by EQUIS, AACSB, etc).

Even though the school mentions AACSB accreditation, after she cross checked the current listing (Jan 2004), she could not find the school.

Anyone in France or Mainland Europe, what is the reputation of the ESC-LILLE Graduate School of Management and more so their masters and doctorate programs. She wants to go and study for her PhD.

    Thanks!

    MM.

It's a perfectly reasonable French Ecole Superieure de Commerce.

It doesn't have AACSB accreditation, it has institutional membership, which is quite different.

If AACSB is important to your friend, she'd be better off at one of the other Ecoles Superieure that do have AACSB, like Grenoble, Toulouse, HEC or Insead.

Thanks for the reply ... Additional Queries ...

    Dear Angie,

Here are her additional comments to your recent posting (edited):

    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thanks for the replies. So it is safe to assume that the cost is much cheaper than other schools.

Actually how is the educational system organized in France?

Is this a private school, a post-graduate school or public school?

Is is better for me to go for the PhD in France or maybe should I join you [MM] in UK?

Should I assume that with the AACSB membership, there is hope that they may one day become AACSB accredited.

It has taken me long to get a school and I'm a little bit scared of starting the application process again.

Can I assume that this is a reputable international business school?

As I understand it the ESC is the highest ranking schools in France. This makes it a reputable school in France. The "ESC" title comes from France, and I think there are only 11-14 (somewhere in that range).

The name of the school being a "graduate school of business", I would assume a graduate school.

What do you want to do with the degree, in relation to your question of the PhD and the MM. Do you have a master's right now?

Some schools make it from one stage to the next, ESC Grenoble just got their this year, so I would ask the school dirtectly what their timeline is and plans are for accreditation.

It all depends on what you want to do with the degree, to whether it is reputable. Are you in the public sector, what country, do you want to teach, what level of school do you want to teach in? This might help to see if the school is a fit for you.

It's a public school. More information on the Grandes Ecoles can be found at the website of the Conference des Grandes Ecoles, http://www.cge.asso.fr/cadre_ecole_en.html

They may, they may not. It completely depends on the school's priorities and needs. If I had to stick my neck out and take a guess, I'd suspect that they'd go for EQUIS first.

    Yup!

My layman's eye view from half the world away is that the Ecoles are generally more prestigious than the Universities within France itself.

As I've heard it explained, the Ecoles have more freedom to set their own curriculum, are often better funded, have higher admissions standards and are less politicized and more technocratic. French students compete furiously for admission to the best of them.

    Is that an accurate impression?

    Interesting updates ...

    Han, Angie and Bill,

    Thanks.

She has a masters already and was debating going for a DBA (like me) or for a PhD.

She thought of France coz that would give her one more language and also for the multi-cultural exposure.

She was not sure if the school was that reputable but apparently was the only (or among the few ones) that had a focus on project management from a theoretical perspective.

Bill: I hope you impression is accurate but from what I have read posted by Angie and Han, it looks like you are right on the money.

    She found two additional links:
