    Folks,

For a while I've been trying to figure out what's in it for the University of South Africa and the Australian universities to seek DETC accrediation. I thought it might be access to American Title IV funds until it was pointed out here that they're eligible without it.

So I still haven't figured that one out, really. But something just occurred to me. If UNISA is DETC, does that mean they'd accept a DETC accredited Master's as preparation for their PhD programs?

For example, if you hold an MBA from DETC-accredited Ashworth College (total cost: $4889.00) can you then successfully apply to UNISA's PhD program in management?

I would assume that the DETC Masters degree would be acceptable as such although there frequently are differences between ZA Masters programs and US Masters programs in that the ZA programs are often research-based while the US programs are typically taught. This is an important distinction in that the ZA PhD programs are entirely research-based and the research-based Masters programs are seen as being better preparation than the taught programs. The Honors degree is sometimes seen as being adequate for entry into the PhD programs and they also sometimes offer Graduate Diploma programs to help people get their foot in the door. If I were you I'd just give it a try.

I think Jack makes a good point. Strictly speaking UNISA would accept other DETC school's graduates, but that does not mean every DETC school graduate would be accepted the same way one cannot assume all graduates from an RA school would be accepted.

Many DETC graduates are opting to go to Northcentral University which has agreed to accept DETC graduates and undergraduates.

    Best,
