    Hello,

I usually lurk, but thought I would post.

I'm a past grad of CCU's MBA program. Hoping they may receive DETC accreditation, I have a self-enrichment interest in this new degree. I've search the forum, but don't see any feedback on this program. Can anyone enrolled tell me what it's like?

    Thanks

I believe it's a new program so there would be few students.

CCU students often have to duck the shrapnel around here. We know that they offer good programs but the great unwashed remain to be convinced.

Dennis reacts that way whenever CCU is mentioned, even if it's not criticized.

My question is, why would someone pursue a degree from a school not recognized by one's profession.

Even if CCU gets DETC accreditation, there's the real fact that such a degree might not be accepted for licensure, promotion, raises, and/or continuing education requirements.

That said, a CCU degree--accredited or not--is nothing to be ashamed of. :)

I know several professionals (law enforcement, industry, ministers) who have pursued unaccredited degrees and have done just fine with them. An unaccredited degree in education seems strange to me, since neither K-12 schools, community colleges nor universities will recognize the degree for employment, certification, salary enhancement or professional advancement. Some private schools might, however.

If your self-enrichment goals do not include the items above, then CCU may be a viable choice for you. However, you really ought to check out the myriad of choices for masters degrees in education from accredited schools (many of which could be reasonably priced).

Can anyone comment on this M. Ed.

Four Classes, Four Thousand US Dollars for a M. Ed sounds great. Is it RA equivalent?

    Don't get it

I still don't understand what CCU had in mind by offering this Masters program. Seems like square peg, round hole stuff to me, laden with the potential for frustration since the preponderance of education positions and licensing require regional accreditation. Some application in corporate education perhaps. In this case, I truly don't see the value or return.

    Re: Don't get it

Okay, I'll "argue the alternative." My experience in corporate training has shown that the M.Ed. is a very common degree. Perhaps that is CCU's target market, not educators.

There. I've talked on both sides of this issue. Conjecture will cause that sometimes!:)

Yes, it is equivalent to RA.

Don't be fooled by the four courses. I'm sure it is just as hard and as long as other master's degrees.

That's exactly what I found when I was researching Australian degrees. It appears that the difference is in the quantity of work required for each of those four courses. I would be surprised if there is much time difference between that degree and other M.Ed.s.

  10. Try UIS

I have just learned that I have been accepted to UIS graduate program. My BA is from a RA B&M school. Tuition for students taking only online courses is just $129/unit, called e-tuition, and is available to students enrolling in the M ed program. CCU was evaluated, but I didn't enroll because it is not yet DETC or RA accredited, whereas U IS is RA.
