    Discovered on collegehints.

Some of the best Australian Universities are applying for DETC accreditation.

    Institutions Seeking Initial Accreditation

The following institutions have applied for initial accreditation:

Abraham Lincoln University, Los Angeles, CA
AHS Institute (Association for Hebraic Studies), Suffern, NY
American College of I.T., Saint Joseph, MO
    Anaheim University, Newport Beach, CA
    At-Home Professions, Fort Collins, CO
    Blackstone Career Institute, Emmaus, PA
California Coast University, Santa Ana, CA
    Central State University, Riverside, CA
    Deakin University, Australia
International Sports Sciences Association, Santa Barbara, CA
Lansbridge University, Fredericton, New Brunswick, Canada
    Monash University, Australia
Rescue College/Association of Gospel Rescue Missions, N. Kansas City, MO
Southern California University for Professional Studies, Santa Ana, CA
    Southern Queensland University, Australia
    University of New England, Australia
University of Philosophical Research, Los Angeles, CA
    Yorktown University, Dolores, CO

Many of the biggest international distance programs will be DETC.

Note that Century is kaput as far as DETC is concerned. I imagine they had too few accredited doctorates.

Thanks for the info Dennis. Whilst this will be another feather in the cap for Australian universities, I do wonder why the move for DETC recognition. All Australian universities are already deemed to be equivalent to RA as they are all eligible to participate in the US Title IV loan scheme. A mere marketing ploy, or does it really add value?

    Cheers,

It's interesting that 4 Aussie unis apply at the same time. Something's up.

Incidentally, I commented on new DETC applicant Anaheim in a separate thread.

    Mysterious Movement

My first thought when I saw this, as when I saw that UNISA was pursuing DETC, was that it had to be related to access to Title IV funding. That not being the case, since they're already RA equivalent, I can't imagine why any of them would be interested in US accreditation, much less DETC.

That's not to bust on DETC, but I see no advantage to foreign institutions that are Title IV eligible and GAAP accredited to pursue anything US-based. Anyone?

    Re: Mysterious Movement

Probably it's to draw more foreign, especially U.S. students. In addition to being RA equivalent, somehow knowing that the university is recognized by a USDOE recognized accreditor adds more confidence.

I think that this will help the DETC in 2006 when they plan to start accrediting doctoral programs, if all goes according to plan.

They can say that X number of our members already grant doctorates.

I suspect that American accreditation may be a plus for Australian universities marketing into Asia.

Four different schools at once. There must be something interesting behind it.
