At CollegeHints.com, a discussion board centered on distance education, yet another "less-than wonderful" school is being advertised: Columbus University.

Columbus used to operate from Louisiana until that state put a stop to it. So it moved across the state line to Mississippi, a state who has yet to take on such operations. (Thus becoming a haven for schools kicked out of Louisiana.) It also uses a mailing address in Asia (Taiwan, IIRC). Columbus is also the "alma mater" of Charles Abel, an undersecretary of defense.

Does the advertising of such a school reflect negatively on the operation of the board itself? Or is it just an example of free speech and free enterprise? ("Schools," actually. The board also advertises Kennedy-Western.)

Oh, it also advertises "accredited" degrees at all levels from Lacrosse University, whose accreditation comes from the fake WAUC.

Another advertisement offers degrees in a week from some entity called "Life Experience Degrees."

These links come and go with each refreshing of the home page or the forums page.

    And so forth.

It has a positive impact on Glen's pocketbook. It doesn't matter how much you dislike the ads: so long as you click on them, he gets paid.

Glen made the choice to use Google AdSense, but he didn't approve the individual ads. Google did.

Yes, you posted this previously. My mistake.

While Glen doesn't approve the individual ads, he uses a service that provides them. It's the same thing: promoting degree mills.

My opinion is that it reflects poorly on Glen's honesty and the utility of the forum in general.

Keep in mind that the home page for the site features (among other legitimate offerings) a large ad for Kennedy-Western University. Moreover, using the site’s search function to request information on specific degrees returns ads for the likes of KW and Robert Kennedy College. Google does not provide these ads; therefore, the decision to accept these ads was a cognitive one.

I think you're missing a comma. Did you mean to say "among other, legitimate offerings"?

I wrote to google about certain adds, and this was there reply

This tells me that Glenn can keep certain ads from coming through but choose's not too....

The additional technical information was nice to read. Glen, of course, has already said he's going to take degree mill ad money and wasn't going to listen to anyone about it. Scruples for sale, cheap.

Hey, buddy, can you spare a <click>?

I read a few days ago the RC Douglas was not going to post again at DegreeInfo? I even opened an expensive bottle of champagne to celebrate - but now find he is posting more than ever! But the champagne was certainly far more pleasant than his recent posts.

    Hi, Neil,

You know I like you and think your dissertation provided a significant contribution to the field, but, come on now, my friend, isn't it time to be more constructive than this?

The anti-Rich Douglas posts here and elsewhere are getting a little old and, quite frankly, ridiculous.

And, as someone who has been on the receiving end of more justifiable criticism, I am sure he is getting tired of it as well.

I would rather hear how the Teal project is going. Please update us.

There have been several, including myself, who have said we won't be posting anymore or that we are going to limit our posting.

But, you know, Degree Info is somewhat addicting, isn't it.

    Take care my friend!

Sorry for that transgression Dr Clifton. I am seriously attempting to become more Christian-like, but still lapse into those old ways occasionally.
Keep up the good work, and best regards,
    Neil

Neil, call me Jimmy as we are better friends than that.

You don't owe me an apology. I have done more than my share of snipping. Let's both pledge to be more Christ-like.

PS. For the first time in the last decade brown teal numbers on the NZ mainland have actually increased. Recent flock counts in the Northland area resulted in 303 brown teal being seen, which from past studies means an approximate total of 500 brown teal in Northland. A fantastic result and all down to the Department of Conservation's predator control programmes, with traps at one site eliminating fifty stoats in December.
I've already sent a note to the Minister of Conservation (who is the key to funding the predator control programmes) congratulating him and his department.

Hayes read incorrectly, as usual. Perhaps the moderators would consider rebuking his irrelevant and ad hominem post.

Thanks for the update. Your work with the Brown Teal is commendable.

    Just don't join PETA! :D

Sorry about that Rich, I'll attempt to read your posts more carefully in future.

To help anyone searching for the story, the correct spelling is Charles Abell .

Thanks, Mark. It's a typo, but one I keep making.

I notice also, at CollegeHints, that a new poster, K.C.-something-or-other, keeps talking about me. He/she lately is saying he/she's read my research but, in fact, he/she hasn't The same mistake made by French and Hayes: it is the statistical component of another project I did a long time ago and used as part of my degree program. But it isn't the one that is the basis for my dissertation, as anyone who can read the abstract can tell.

It is a little cesspool, and to laugh.

I'm sorry Mark, but are you really so petty as to criticize the alleged lack of a comma?
