I just completed my BS at California Coast University and thinking of doing Graduate work at an RA school.
Will I have any problems being accepted in these RA schools?? If not, are there any schools that come to mind which accept CCU students?

    Any help would be appreciated.

You should expect to be rejected by almost all accredited schools, who will routinely reject applicants with unrecognized degrees.

You should make inquiries with the school(s) you're interested in.

Then there's the issue about having an accredited master's on top of an unaccredited bachelor's, which might cause employment difficulties.

    It is highly unlikely, but...

If a regionally accredited university or college accepts you into graduate school, then please let us know.

Try Nova Southeastern, I think that they do accept state approved degrees on a limited basis. Contact them for more clarification.

What is your BS on? what kind of grad degree are you looking for?

CCU may become accredited by DETC maybe as early as June.
I would ask them about upgrading your degree. See what it would take to make it an accredited one. Most schools give that option to its more recent graduates when they receive their accredition.

A little extra work but it will help you in the long run.

Actually, I'm just in the midst of completing my BS. Will be completed by May 2004.

    Thanks for the info.

    Hi Lakers

Welcome to degreeinfo. Two quick points. First, if you can delay graduation you will likely have an accredited degree. Even if it meant taking an incomplete I would. A degree from a school accredited AFTER you graduated is still an unaccredited degree. One after it is accredited even if by days is an accredited degree. Secondly, Even if most RA schools won't accept an unaccredited degree, all your need is one. Good luck.

While I'm no fan of DETC accreditation, it is certainly better then nothing. Having said that...

If CCU is going to get DETC accreditation, then I would delay my degree, at all cost, until the school receives DETC. I don't know if you can delay your petition to graduate. If you can't do that, then sign up for the easiest cheesiest class you can find. How about underwater basket weaving for one credit? The following semester you could take a similar class, until CCU finally gets DETC. ;) :D

I agree with Dave. It may be worth dragging out your graduation so that you'll have an accredited degree. The best guesses around here are saying that CCU has a good chance at DETC accreditation by the end of the year. Of course, a DETC accredited degree will still mean that you may have some difficulties getting into an RA graduate program but the options and opportunities should be much greater.

I know that Capella has accepted some DETC graduates. Our own PaulC went from ISIM (now Aspen University) to Capella. Granted, that was from a master's program to a doctoral program, but it may be a good place to start.

I would have agree. I would wait until they have a ruling on accreditiation to graduate. I will probably contact the school and see if I can convert my MBA to a DETC one.

Thanks for all the info guys. I was pushing to finish my degree by May but I think I'll just slow down the pace and graduate later.

Randell, what's Touro International Univ. like? I see that you have a degree from CCU. Did you have any trouble being selected into the school?

I was accepted to TUI based on my BS from Charter Oak. I did not even submit my transcripts from CCU.

TUI is really good but I do miss books.

  14. Why do you think CCU will become accredited?

CCU is a real place in Santa Ana, CA. I strolled by the place recently during my lunch break from jury duty at Orange County Superior Court. Being a California resident, I prefer to keep my money in the state.

What makes you think they will receive DETC accreditation? Any chance for RA, which would be WASC.

I walked by there as well (Going to Burrows) when I was doing some paperwork on a home I purchased in Cali. Its a quaint little set up they have.

I am interested in seeing "If" they will become DETC Accredited as well.

    Regards,

    Mike

Just out of curiosity. You say that it is a real place. Do they operate outside of a building and rent a couple of offices or do they have their own building?

If they have their own building, how large is it? old, new?

    thanks,

    :)

Re: Why do you think CCU will become accredited?

CCU dropped their doctoral programs to pursue DETC accreditation. Since these programs are big money makers, I think it is very clear that they are serious about achieving accreditation. I have no idea if they will get it on the first review, but if not, there will be recommendations for specific changes, and I suspect that CCU will make whatever changes are necessary. It would be disastrous not too.

As for WASC, they have not applied, as far as I know. But they might in the future. Stranger things have happened.

Please let us know what you find out.

Until recently, I was not aware that this was even possible. But from what I have read, it appears that it is not uncommon.

CCU has owned their own building for over 20 years. It's a former bank building which I would guess was built in the 1930's and nicely re-modeled over the years.

The DETC Commission has ruled in the past that newly accredited schools cannot re-issue (convert) degrees previously awarded.

I don't expect this policy to change.
