California Pacific University

First, I know this is not an RA or DETC school.

I tried to do a search here using CPU and spelling out the name. I think some of the threads are referring to a school with the same initials and the word California in the search feature turns up every argument about the state of California.

Can anyone tell me about this school?

 

They certainly seem to be among the least controversial of California's unaccredited but state-approved schools.

If a person is in California, and has no wish to use the degree in an academic setting, and no plans to live in or travel to Illinois, New Jersey, Oregon, or other states that regulate degree use, and is confident that an unaccredited degree will meet their current and predictable future needs, then his would be one worth considering.

I wonder if they have thoughts or plans either to apply for DETC, and/or to be removed from the Oregon list. My guess is that they could well successful at both.

 

Very small. Very narrow curriculum. In the past had partnerships with other schools, including International College and Alabama A&M, but no longer. It has been offering California-Approved degrees since that distinction meant something. Founder is still running things with his wife, IIRC.

With CCU dropping its doctoral programs in pursuit of DETC accreditation, CPU is one of the few 100% DL schools with California Approval to consider. But if, and only if, you are sure such a degree will meet your present and future needs. It is very difficult to make that determination. (Sorry, had to toss that in.)

The search function will accept more than one word. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a way to search a string like "california pacific university" without also getting posts with one or more of those terms, but not referring to CPU.

Check out the advanced search option of Google -- it allows different types of searches using logic. Great for searches of the type discussed above.

 

CPU has always been one of my favorites of the approved CA schools. They maintain their focus in the business realm, are upfront about their approved and accreditation status, and I have never heard of any complaints.

Their catalog is very straight forward. I really like the lay out of the degree, the price is good, and I can work at my own pace. Just thinking out loud. Thanks.
