    Hello all,

I'm new to this forum, but I've had the priviledge to read all your informed discussions on this board.

I'm an airline captain, and i've been in the industry for 21 years now.
As you all might be aware of, back then, a college degree was not required to start in the profession.
Now, I want the degree just as a personal accomplishment.

I have a couple of clep exams done, with a couple on the way. I have some PLAC from the UoP, and completed 4 core business classes at the UoP, and now need Gen Ed classes.
UoP is too expensive to take all the Gen Ed I need.

In addition, I have transfer credits from two other colleges, but at this time, I'm getting a little discouraged because of the 14 week programs, and do not see the end in sight.

I am contemplating KW, in business and leadership, because i beleieve it would get my to my goal easier. I also plan to get a Masters once the BA is completed.

I need your advice/direction as to whether that will be an ok direction to go, considering my background, and reason for my degree.

What faster and cheaper options can you suggest, keeping in mind that I have licenses and certificates that I need to get credits for as well.

    Thanks,
    Guppydriver

Kennedy-Western may be fast. But it's not that cheap. And it's unaccredited, so it won't get you into a legitimate graduate school. Use the search button in this forum to discover many unsavory facts about it.

The Big 3 are probably right for you. See http://www.bain4weeks.com.

Kennedy wasn't western. Don't you remember his New England accent? :D

    Welcome to the forum.

    4 weeks...

Thanks a million for the link. It seems like a challenge that can be accomplished. A degree in on month!
one other question, how can I determine what exams to take that will yeild a degree at Excelsior without enrolling in a degree program? or any other school for that matter.

    Thanks again,
    Guppydriver.

ps. if Kennedy was not Western, Where does he hail from. Mountainous.... sorry about that!

Isn't it worthless? A degree from KW may not meet your present and future needs.

Not to mention KW's motto "a degree you need like a hole in the head."

    bad is bad

I got a bunch of catalogs from KW saying that they are lisenced and their business degree is accepted by companies natiowide.

I spoke to a friend of mine here in Arizona, who works for one of those companies(his MBA is from UoP), and he told me they have several people that work for them with MBAs from KW.

I'll appreciate your informed opinoins about that. Also, since I don't plan to use my degree for work or advancement, do you guys suggest that testing out will be the best option avaialable?

    I appreciate all your opinions.

    Hey Ike, Kedu?

Don't get your hopes up. The author of BAin4Weeks, Lawrie Miller, has compared his title to Hugo's French in Three Months. He admits, "I've had that friggin' book 27 years. Still can't speak the language."

Don't delay enrolling, or you may get unpleasant surprises. But degree requirements are set out in college catalogues. Here, you'll find links to Excelsior's Liberal Arts catalogue and its Guide to Credit by Examination:

That expression has always puzzled me. Don't we need mouth, nostrils, pupils, skin pores...?

Is "Eeeeuuuuuww" new? I hear it all the time now, but the only expressions of disgust that I can recall from my childhood are "Yeuch!" and "Ick!"

    Going by your name...

You are a guy. "Eeeeeeuuuuuwww" is a girl thing. That is what they would do to us when we showed them bugs, frogs, etc. :D

No disparagement of Uncle Janko intended. :)

I'll second Mark Israel. A degree from Kennedy Western is not one to take pride in and BAin4Weeks is an excellent site.

Military background lead to your four-striper status?

Please send me a message with contact information via the private message function of this forum.

As a fellow pilot, I have quite a few suggestions to speed up the earning of your degree, but I need some personal information first (ratings, etc.).

Are you really a Guppy Driver? If so, which one, Mini, Super, Pregnant, Very Pregnant, or 201? :D

True. But some states are woefully lax about licensing schools. K-W operates based in California. In 1991, California passed a law regulating online degree programs. Even after the law was passed, state approval is still much easier to get than regional accreditation. But rather than try to comply with California's law, K-W looked to other states for approval. John Bear reports: "After trying Idaho and then Hawaii, Kennedy-Western found a welcome in Wyoming", generally considered one of the laxest states.

According to Dr Bear, a K-W degree cannot be used in California, Hawaii, Idaho, Michigan, New Jersey, North Dakota, Oregon, or Wyoming.

Here is the Web page showing it is illegal in Oregon.
    http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/unaccredited.html

Many companies do accept degrees from K-W and other state-licensed schools. But this may be due to ignorance, and I wouldn't count on the persistence of ignorance in an information age.

You should look at portfolios, too.

    Gubby,
Please don't take too much notice of what some DegreeInfo 'experts' have to say about K-W.
K-W is one of the most successful state approved universities and its degrees are widely recognised, and well respected in, industry, education and commerce, etc. In fact a K-W degree often gains more respect than one from an RA institution.
K-W presents an ideal opportunity for many mature and work experienced people to gain a recognised qualification.
There are many thousands of people throughout the world who have K-W degrees and have found the K-W degree of real benefit to their career.

Chris, eeeeuuuww is not a "girl thing". See Calvin & Hobbes (the comic strip, not Bill Grover's inspirations). :)

Mark, you are obviously not my landsman. It was a typically Carpathian bleak historical joke based on the demise of certain politicians named Kennedy.

Neil, get a grip. Now that you have resorted to trading invective with the invective-traders, you give bad juju to Guppydriver by extolling KW. Misleading him doesn't enhance whatever case you might make about TCU or Knightsbridge, nor does it somehow refute your antagonists. I don't care if you want to disparage the "experts," as you call them. Let's you and them fight. But don't vent your spleen in this way.
It misinforms a newbie and fails to enhance your reputation. :(

    Guppy,
FNHAYES, the infamous Mr. Antidae, is simply full of untruth. Please, please, please do not let his misguided beliefs, which he uses to protect his own ego and degree, lead you down the path of KW. KW is bad news and will not be of benefit.

"Dr." Hayes recently trade in his totally phony doctorate for one just as useless, other than what is does for his ego.

I guess I am one of the "experts" that he belittles.
My credentials in this field are at
    http://tripod.circledance.com.

Kennedy-Western is not state approved. It has an 'automatic' license in a state which rubber stamps all applications -- and which, thank goodness, is seriously considering a much tougher new licensing law, which, if it happens, will send Kennedy-Western on to its fifth state.

While I have suggested unaccredited schools for people many times in the past, in light of (a) the growing number of states in which such degrees are not only illegal, they are "big time" illegal, complete with possible prison sentences, and (b) the growing number of schools with recognized accreditation doing distance degrees at the graduate level, I just can't recommend the option any more for the majority of people with a degree wish or need.

Be careful Best regards, John Bear

    good grief!

John, Fnhayes, et al, I thank all of you for your opinion an advice.
In my experience, I know that there is no fire without smoke. I am sure that a lot of people must have had very negative
experiences at KW, hence all the passionate advice against the idea.
I also sure that some peope also have KW degrees that have benefited them.
As much as I want a degree for my personal satisfaction, I also want to be able to talk about it as well.
I believe at this time I will have to put the KW idea aside, and look for other options. All I keep hearing is RA schools, and I hear
    that message loud and clear.
So, I guess I'll keep looking. I'll apprecite any other direction anyone else might have.

I thank you all for your comments.

    Best regards,
    Guppydriver
