Well I hope at least the lovely Maxine is accurate about the imminent demise of Cambridge State University. That would be good news.

I might be willing to accept the latter if it necessarily included the former.

My favorite quote, the infamous Maxine Asher said,

I can't even imagine the position that one would have to be in to be able to hang on by one's toenails. Oh well, I guess that they climb and hang on differently in Atlantis?

It always makes me nervous when a reporter does not use a tape recorder during an interview. While he managed to get most of the facts correct, I believe a couple of clarifications are in order.

First, I did not call the Southern Association backward. Being in California, I know very little about the operations of the Southern Association. I did call WASC backward but I also had praise for the North Central Association.

I am quoted as saying “Some of the schools certified by DETC are pretty good.” This might imply that some of the DETC schools are not good. What I actually said was something to the effect that while I haven’t looked at every DETC school, all the schools I’ve looked at have pretty good programs. Since every DETC institution must meet the same standards, I believe any DETC school could be a viable option for a student depending on his or her specific needs.

I did use the term “cartel” in referring to the regional bodies and believe this label is appropriate.
