    ...at http://jerry2day.com/uniquest/ offers a "doctorate" for $160.

The degrees come with a one year money-back guarantee, according to the site. Perhaps that means you can forget everything they taught you in exchange for a refund?

Now, don't be suspicious: even though you're not allowed to know the name of your university until after you graduate, "The university awarding your degree is legally entitled to do so and is accredited by the Northern Hemisphere Board of Academic Studies."

The site also sells crass T-shirts.

    degreeconsultant.com site suffers cerebro-vascular event

In the spirit of watching the degree broker sites, I took a look at http://www.degreeconsultant.com/ . The front page shows major weirdness:
followed by a whole lot of Portuguese.

Maybe Brasilian hackers got it, in retaliation for that American Airlines pilot flipping them the bird in his security photo earlier today.

Very strange, it is indeed Portugese, but with my limited Portugese language skills it is some diatribe about university students, probably written under the influence of a potent drug :)

However of note, it talks about Xuxa. I met her once, a wonderful woman.

IR4DEX is indeed a group of Brazilian hackers comprised of the individuals who go by the names of Smurf_RedHat, v0lks, Creative_MX, and tr0yck. The diatribe is actually poetry (or perhaps better characterized as rap), and it all rhymes (Xuxa is there to rhyme with buxa). I would not read anything into the fact that the site was hacked. IR4DEX are just a bunch of anarchists who appear to randomly select sites to deface, and, more often than not, they do what is called a mass defacement of an IP.

I may be mistaken, but I am sure that the logo and font used on the sample testamur are that of Marlborough University, closed down some time back by Jeff Bruntons' magic in Hawaii. Can you confirm Jeff??

    Cheers,

There are certainly more than a few similarities. Marlborough was run by a gentleman named Charles James through a Honolulu mail-forwarding service. There were at least two individuals connected with MU in Bangkok: Sterling Bound and Peter Felicietti. They both had addresses in the notorious Patpong district, one on Surawong Road. James also had an address in Portugal and Gibraltar. MU also had a fax relay service in the state of Washington. The crest-shaped logo is identical to MUs. The most recent file activity we show is an August 2003 attempt by a person in Lagos Nigeria named High Chief J.O. Agboye to seek registration of MU in Hawaii. His request came with the same MU crest logo in the same off-purple color. I believe he sent similar letters to other states.
