May be some of you can help me.

I am from Germany. I have 10 years of general school education, 2 years of job training ("State-Approved Social Assistant") and 2 years of bible school education. I have 9 years of experience in church work (children´s ministry, music team and preaching) and an Associate of Arts in Christian Ministry by an unaccredited institution (may be worthless :( ). My question is:

Do you know an accredited DL institution (Theology) who will recognize my bible school and experience? I spend two years in bible school so it would be great to know an institution who grants credit for that.

What type of degree are you looking for? Bachelor's? Master's?

    Well, a Master´s would be great. But I think that´s unrealistic so... a Bachelor´s :)

I think SATS in ZA would consider most of your yearnings for your Bachelor's (course credits and experience). They're pretty flexible yet they don't skimp on the requirements. Check out their website for the pricing of modules. And they respond pretty fast and cordial.

Why do you want the degree? For a better job within your church? For a more advanced degree leading to a professorship? For self-satisfaction?

You fret that your unaccredited degree "may be worthless", but I'm wondering how much even an accredited degree in Theology is "worth".

Well, I guess we could all piss on each others' fields of study, but the resulting flames would entail a lot of urethral burning.

I think most generally we look at degrees as enabling one to make money. Probably instead disciple looks at the degree as enabling him to help people. If so, that is worthwhile IMO. In my , more selfish, case, it is to enable me to understand. Certainly there are other objectives as well.

The worth of the degree is to be measured by whether it meets the goals of the student and whether it is done in an academically rigorous manner. While I cannot argue that theology degrees are money makers, I can comment that their rigor in a good school certainly exceeds many other disciplines.

It would be a shame if making money was thought to be the only worthwhile purpose for study and this forum devolved into criticisms of those learnings which did not result in huge profits.

My goal is not to make money! Most of the churches in Germany believe in praying for the pastor this way: ´Lord, you keep him humble and we keep him poor!´. There is also no denomination that will pay you more because you have a degree.
But Germany is a very academic country and a degree in theology would be very helpful. So I am looking for an accredited DL institution that will recognize by bible school... or a large part of it.

And I believe a SRU degree wouldn´t be that helpful... :D

What's your confessional/denominational tradition? This may help us pinpoint some US schools for you to explore.

I would say pentecostal/charismatic. But I have no problem with another more denominational institution if it is not too "denominational-bound" (since we´re all brothers and sisters :) )

South African Theological Seminary is probably the most affordable equivalent of accredited option for undergradute & graduate theological degrees. My understanding is that they are both SAQA & CHE accredited in South Africa. Very inexpensive, very helpful.

They will give you a no cost evaluation of transcripts, etc.

    Good luck.

And SATS' basic orientation, via The Village Church, is somewhat charismatic.
