I'm interested in a Distance Learning Phd or DBA in Business Administration.

I can't afford an RA School due to budgetary problems. DETC approved Schools do not offer Phd or DBA programs.

Therefore, it looks like I'm left with state approved Universities.

Moreover, a lot of credible state approved universities such as Cal Coast droped their PhD/DBA program siince they are seeking DETC approval.

I've done some research on BPPVE site & ended with the following two state approved universities which are affordable:

    1- California Pacific University.

    2- Pacific Western University.

Therefore, I would appreciate if you have any additional information on the above mentioned universities ?

    Which one is better?

    Thanks

    Look at foreign schools

If money is a real problem, look at South Africa cost would be less than $2000 per year. If it is not so much of a problem, look at Australia. I think you could do a DBA there for about $11,000 total. Much better options than unaccredited schools.

    Australian & South African Universities

    Dear Chris,

    Thanks for your reply.

Could you please suggest few Australian &
    South African Universities ?

    Thanks again.

I am in somewhat of the same situation as you and this is just my opinion-

I do not like PWU because they have a Califorina version of a degree and a Hawaii version of their degree. That makes me feel uncomfortable.

I like CPU and I am thinking about that school or CUBT.

I am also considering RA schools becasue my company will now only reimburse for accredited schools.

    Godd luck

    Australia,

    University of South Australia,
    University of Sunshine Coast,
    University of Southern queensland,
    University of Newcast,
    Charles Sturt University,
    Southern Cross University

Some of them require residencies. The university of southern queensland recently changed the residency requirements and now you are required to go for a seminar in research methodology and recommend to go at least once a year.

    South Africa

    UNISA

You might want to take a look at the PhD from Touro or NCU that are also reasonable priced.

    SA Universities

For universities in South Africa, look at:

    http://www.studysa.co.za/

and they are all listed. E-mail your choice and see what they say.

    Good luck,
    Chris

Hi. Much has been written about both of these schools, so you may want to search through the discussion boards. I do recommend the California Pacific University Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) degree if you aren't seeking to teach in higher education:

    http://www.cpu.edu

The Cal-Pacific degree should be adequate for most applications in business and consulting. Note that CPU updated their website...

Still, there are many South African options in the same price range that might prepare you to teach (i.e., be accepted as the equivalent of regionally-accredited); check out UNISA, Durban Institute of Technology and University of the Free State:

    http://www.unisa.ac.za/
    http://www.dit.ac.za/
    http://www.uovs.ac.za/

And there are other options as was mentioned earlier in this thread.

    Hope it helps!

    Best wishes,

    Dave

For what its worth, I have been in contact with the Durban Institute of Technology, which is a Technikon in South Africa. So far, they have been very responsive both by email as well as by scheduled teleconferences. The price of the entire program is very appealing (around $1500.00 USD) and can be completed entirely by Distance Learning. Further, the Doctor of Technology is a dissertation only program.

We are currently arranging for me to enroll in the program this coming year (2004). I'll keep you posted on my experience and progress if you like.

    Are you sure?

Are you happy with doing your doctorate through a Technikon? Aren't they regarded as significantly inferior to universities, despite the "speak" about different focus etc?

What is happening to the technikon in the amalgamation process of South African universities and technikons? Who knows, you might get lucky and get a university degree!

    That was what convinced me...

in the time it takes me to complete my DTech the amalgamation should be complete. Part of the process is merging a university with a technikon and integrating the previously segregated institutions. They should be much more standard in that time. Besides, I am a techie by trade so the Technikon thing wasn't a big deal for me anyway. May actually be a plus.

    http://www.cpu.edu/fraud_alert.htm

Good warning page! The new website is 100% better than the old. This anti-fraud/anti-mill page should be standard equipment for any university which is aware of named-almost-alike mills, and its admonition to would-be customers/co-conspirators of mills is trenchant.

  14. Why are they on the ODA list then?

Why is CPU on the same warning list as SRU in the state of Oregon? I mean, if we are defending CPU and their stance against diploma mills, how come they are in exactly the same company according to Oregon's ODA as institutions that we pretty much all agree are bogus?

I enjoy the irony of this enormously.

This is exactly the point made in so much of the discussion here. Without recognized accreditation, it's hard to tell the (few) legitimate institutions from the diploma mills.

The reason that CPU is on the ODA list is given on the ODA page at http://www.osac.state.or.us/oda/unaccredited.html

Yes, and I don't allow any vehicle with Oregon license plates to park in my driveway, unless the driver can prove that Oregon is a State. Another option is for the State of Oregon to submit proof of statehood in advance in triplicate hardcopy. I'm sorry but that is the law here at Dave's house as administered by Dave's Department of Education. See, two can play that game... ;-)

    Cheers,

    Dave

I'd like to thank you all for your feedback.

    For Chris:

I understand that you're enrolled in the
    D. Tech (Business Administration) at Durban Institute of Technology.

Are you happy with the program ? Faculty? courses etc..

I've sent an email today to the University requesting more information.

However, I wanted to have an idea about your current experience

    Thanks.

Advice would be greatly appreciated about best of my 3 choices for a Doctorte in Bus

I am brand new to this forum, and would like to ask for some advice. I have worked in international business for a fairly long time, and want to move in university teaching. This year I will start teaching a couple of courses at local schools. I have an MBA and a MA in International Affairs. I can't afford to go to school full time.
I am looking at Case Western Reserve's EDM program, Univ of Maryland-Univ College DM program, and Nova Southeastern's DBA.
I would really welcome any feedback. Thanks.
