This really should be in the Divining Dothan thread, but repeated attempts to post failed yesterday and today as well, so I will try to post as a new thread. Moderators, if you wish to move this to the Divining Dothan thread, that's great. If not, that's OK also.

Bill Grover pointed out long ago, with regard to TTS Newburgh, that the fundamental (sic!) issue was ethics, not rigor. Same thing applies to Dothan. I have no doubts that Dothan fails any reasonable test of rigor, but the genuine issue here is that there is a terrible track record of, uh, creative assertions by this school and its flacks. When those creative assertions are countered with the truth, the response is belligerence and vaguely ad hominem tantrums.

If Dothan were simply a refuge for hapless twits, should they put their unknown minds (in Chancellor Shuemake's phrase!) to it, they might, by seeking guidance from a genuine accrediting agency (which would be a switch), improve themselves.

If Dothan and its proponents were simply substandard, they might well supplement misdirected or inferior degrees with degrees appropriate to the various fields of study they presume to teach. (At least one SATS faculty member did precisely that--it's called integrity.)

If Dothan were a genuinely rigorous institution, that is genuinely accredited and responsibly staffed and promoted under genuine external oversight, the allegations that critics of Dothan are uneducated, cornpone*, etc., simply wouldn't be made. RA, NA, and "GAAP" schools just don't do that.

It is not the caliber of its critics that reveals the nature of Dothan but the dereliction of its defenders.

    J'accuse.

*Mamaliga, to those in the know.

This is just to keep this tied to the mother thread.

I think the response of the school when question reveals much about its character.

First, it's "...when questioned..." Second, you really don't take much of what transpires on here, with regard to the verbal fisticuffs, with any degree of seriousness, do you?

Jimmy, sounds like an answer to avoid the apparent quilt of poor responses when questioned! :D

I take what Chancellor Shuemake says most seriously as the proprietor of his institution.

No, Alan, not at all. I am just saying many of us are just having fun. Remember the Chesterton quote "Angels can fly because they take themselves lightly." You need to loosen up a little!

I take what is said here seriously. I think people coming here to find out about distance education take what is said here seriously. Most of the lighthearted banter 'round these here parts is clearly that. The issue Janko refers to is is something else entirely.

Yeah, let's all loosen up. As a humorless bast**d, I certainly need to do that, never having made a single joke in 1800 pseudo-Prussian posts.

In fact, let's loosen up about truth; it's such a big bore compared to storying. Besides, "repentance" means truth doesn't matter.

We're just "ignorant", "uneducated", "sanctimonious" and "unChristlike" for caring about truth. Yessiree, chucks, we gotta loosen up.

Naah, why be serious about truth? As somebody once said, "what is truth?"

    Hey, just kidding.
