Has anyone heard of an institution called Vancouver University Worldwide? If so what is their status?
Colin, Don't waste your money on this unaccredited institution. If you are interested in a DL program from a Canadian university you may want to consider Athabasca University. They are a government approved institution and a candidate for RA.
Hello Roy, The question: Who are they, and are their authorisation claims valid? They spit nails on the topic of accreditation! As to my study aspirations, British NVQ's for me - they are designed for the working class, gov accredited and suit my pocket. Regards Colin
Colin, If you do a search on this forum you will find a lengthy discussion on this institution. If you are serious about applying to this institution you may first want to ask yourself the following questions: 1) will my employer or prospective employer recognize my degree. 2) what reputation does this school have? 3) can I transfer credits to other schools? 4) does this institution have government approval? The rest I leave up to you. regards,
Vacouver University is not recognized by any other legitimate school in Canada. The British Columbia government has tried to shut them down.
Roy and Dennis, I did the search on Vancouver University and read the (three page) argument. Thanks for the lead, I will stick to British NVQ's for now. Regards Colin
When I was doing research about this institution, I received a letter from the department of education of B.C saying that Vancouver University is not a canadian university. However, they never said that it was an ilegal institution either. It seems that the issue is that they have a license to operate an English school but they use the name "university". They claim that they can do this because they don't teach the courses themselves but only validate the work done at another institution. Whe I talked to Mr Raymond (owner of the school), he told me that in order to be accepted for their PhD program, I would need to have a supervisor at another university and research facilities too. So in few words, they don't have faculty or programs, they only validate the work you do at another university. That is why they argue that the laws don't apply to them.
Okay, I'll bite: Just what is a "British NVQ"? Thanks in advance! Cordially, Richard Kanarek American
Hello, An NVQ is a 'National Vocational Qualification', they go from level 1 to 5. A better description can be found by doing a UK Yahoo search, or visit the City & Guilds website. They are ideal for people who are not able to attend college and for whatever reason are not able to use DL. Regards Colin ps The company I work for pays 100% of the NVQ cost.
Raymond Rodgers, founder of this school, sued my publisher 3 or 4 years ago (libel, slander, restraint of trade, etc.) -- NOT because of what I wrote about them, but because they had not been included among the 100 schools chosen for the "College Degrees by Mail and Internet" book. Ten Speed Press spent a lot of time preparing a response, before learning that one cannot sue for those kinds of things in Canadian small claims court. And no one seems to have figured out yet why the 15th edition has a special acknowledgement, on page v, to Freaky Tah.
Well, not exactly no one, Dr. Bear… However, and just for the sake of historical accuracy, the cryptic special acknowledgement to Freaky Tah appears in the 14th edition of Bears' Guide, but not the 15th edition.
You think that's cryptic, try this. A certain poster, whom John Bear correctly said had lied about him in this forum, in posting on another forum has announced that he has determined that John Bear and I are the same person. I have never been so undeservedly flattered, not to mention egregiously overestimated, in my life. Yo ho ho and a bottle of-- PTOOOO! Him call that rum, man?
