"There are two Doctoral Programs being offered at BU. The first is in the new field of Holistic Psychology TM that encompasses Identity Integration Therapy TM and Psycho-Neural Behavioral Therapy (PNBT) TM."
"The second program, Complementary Medicine and Alternative Healing, offers a Technical Degree much like an M.D. or Doctor of Chiropractic as opposed to a more academic degree such as a PhD (which requires a thesis)."

I do not find BU in the BPPVE database.

BU's accreditor, The International Accrediting Association for Colleges and Universities, has a link that appears to be labeled IAACU.org. That domain belongs to a credit union. Clicking on the link actually takes you toanother page on the BU site which seems to be a doctored version of DETC's degree-granting school page. The differences appear to be BU and something called Huntington Pacific University, which will be at http://www.hpu-edu.org. HPU also does not appear in the BPPVE database.

    looking at the site...

    Let's take a look.

The Dean of Student's Message on the Barron University site (http://www.gobu.org/about.html) doesn't seem to display the name of the Dean, although there is a "Cheryl Rogers" listed as the contact for faculty/adminstration job applicants near the bottom of the page.

The founder of the "school" is a "Dr. Colbey Forman" who is said to have written a book The Psychiatrist’s Reference for Psycho-Neural Behavioral Therapy. Google's never heard of it. Amazon.com doesn't recognize any author by that name.

Google's never heard of Dr. Colby's field of "PsychoNeural Behavioral Therapy."

The article on the site at http://www.gobu.org/press2.html says that Barron University is on the UCLA campus and that Dr. Forman is a rabbi. among other things.

Lots of the site's links are broken at the moment.

There was a reference to "Barron University/Dept. of ESP and Parapsychology/
Greensboro, N.C." in a children's book on the web.

A picture of President Forman is here: http://www.nutritionandkids.net/boris091203.pdf . But that's about all I could find via Google on "Barron university."

A full text search of www.ucla.edu for barron and forman yields no hits.

Looks like it doesn't really exist.

Maybe, maybe not. There is indeed a Colby Forman at Congregation Shir Ami, a Reform shul in Bucks County. According to their website, he sings in the choir. Judging by the picture, he is about ten. He is not listed, however, as a rabbi. I am afraid young Mr Forman is either an absolute iluy and a bit of a theological free-lancer, or else not our man.

The moral of our story? Not all that googles is gold.

On the front page of http://www.gobu.org/about.html if you click on the contact e-mail address the send to address is [email protected]. When I typed in my browser http://www.usdetc.org/ up pops a very similar looking website with a Nevada address and an organization calling itself the United States Distance Education and Training Council.

I contacted the real DETC an informed them of this just in case they or any of their member schools would like to take action.

Merging ancient healing wisdoms with contemporary knowledge is the aim of Barron University's innovative doctoral program. Through programs which seek to unify and create credibility for the healing arts and sciences, BU's goal is to produce a community of healers who are skillfully trained in the broadest range of healing technolgies available anywhere in the world.

After meeting rigid accreditation requirements, BU earned global accreditation by the prestigious World Accreditation of Universities and Colleges (www.web-hed.com/wauc/index.html). Universities who are accredited members of the WAUC are monitored on a timely basis to ensure that the guidelines are followed. Schools are also constantly monitored for quality control.

The correct link for our former accrediting association, The International Accrediting Association for Colleges and Universities (www.iaacu-edu.org) was incorrectly linked on our website. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused.

I find it very suspicious when a university does not list an address or phone number on its web site.

    yanking me crank, eh matey?

You're kidding, this being Halloween and all that, right?

And I do love some of the entities in the IAACU member list.

But it is curious: CHEA does not recognize IAACU or WAUC, and this in spite of the excellent coverage of WAUC given in the Chronicle of Higher Education last June. But what do they know?

Dr. Colbey Forman, Founder and Dean of Students, has lectured extensively on Psycho-Neural Behavioral Therapy, a relatively new field of therapy offering an innovative "solution-oriented," rather than the more traditional "problem-oriented," approach to therapy. For historical and current review, a search on Google will reveal source material dating back some 20 years or more.

The program is designed to afford students the flexibility of correspondence learning while still receiving the benefits of hands-on experiential training through monthly workshops.
Classes are held at satellite locations, such as at UCLA, with more locations being added in various cities as demand grows.

Dr. Forman's "The Psychiatrist’s Reference for Psycho-Neural Behavioral Therapy," a "back-of-the-room" book available at selected seminars, complements learning through a variety of media and hands-on workshops.

All communiucation is done via ESP. The faxes are kind of hard on the recipient, especially if he/she is eating lunch at the time.

    query

Mr. Ross, are you a Barron University Dean of Students too? If so, how many students, and with what degrees, has Barron U graduated in 2002, 2003, and 2004?

    thanks,

    ISBN not

We find two spellings on the web:

    "Colby Forman" and "Colbey Forman."

There is a certain ambiguity in use of the letter "e" on the site: in the "Message from the Dean of Students": we are told "Our university is truely a world leader..." (That should be "truly," of course.)

Perhaps we need to add and subtract various letters "e" in our Google searches.

Why is there such an attraction to hypnosis-related activities on the part of faculty and staff of entities of a certain duckish stature?

The WAUC website has this information for Barron:

    Barron University - http://www.gobu.org Phone: 800/961-3183 - Fax: 310/820-1122

The fax number has a prefix consistent with West LA.

    Googling the phone number revealed:

    Residential Phonebook_Results 1 - 1 of 1 for 310/820-1122 . (0.04 seconds)_

    Colbey Forman - (310) 820-1122 - , Los Angeles, CA 90025 - Yahoo!_Maps - MapQuest

That certainly seems to be consistent with this:

    Dr. Colbey Forman
California Institute and Center for Wholeness
    1550 Bundy Drive, #5, W. Los Angeles, CA 90025
    Voice: (310) 820-1101
    Email: [email protected]

    http://www.nfnlp.com/colbeyforman_bio.htm

Googling "California Institute and Center for Wholeness" generated three hits: this one and two similarly worded notices of what appears to be a self-published book of Colbey's, 'Thou Can Do Tae Kwon Do for the disabled' by Colbey Forman.

I notice that Barron University can be found at both

    http://www.gobu.org and

    http://www.tcfw.org

Perhaps the latter is an old 'the center for wholeness' site.

Forman has a glowing biography on the faculty page of something called Huntington Pacific University:

    http://www.hpuniversity.org/faculty.htm

I was unable to locate a record for either Barron University or Huntington Pacific University on the BPPVE's website, so both appear to be operating illegally in California.

    Play Poker popup

The Huntington Pacific course catalogue features a "Play Poker" popup icon at the end of the page. Even the Harvard University main page does not link visitors to an online poker game. So Huntington is a leader in innovation, sort of.

Huntington Pacific really is innovative. they offer a combined "masters and DUAL-Doctorate" for $5500! Does this mean, that you get a masters and two doctorates at one time? How can any institution offering something comparable not be a diploma mill????

Perhaps not, but if you hang around Harvard Square in Cambridge long enough you're bound to get some very interesting invitations.

    ESP faxes!

Galanga! That bit about ESP faxes was classic! I am just recovering from five minutes of rolling around on the floor in uncontrollable fits of laughter! Very well done, my friend!
