For some reason, I am unable to add a new response to the thread A St. Regis Valupack: Buy in Bulk.

In Germany, the use of most doctoral nomenclature is illegal unless one is a graduate of a standard German university or of a university which has an equivalency pact (I forget the exact term) with standard German universities. This is stringent, and there is no way in blue h*ll SRU would get through.

The ad must be directed at the same idiots who fork over money to the "Free Universities" in Switzerland--except that those places actually do require real work and then issue you a worthless piece of paper unusable in (at least) Germany and Italy, and simply sniggered at in the Confederation.

(How do I know this? I almost became such an idiot--but close only counts with horseshoes and hand grenades, not with time and money which were not wasted! Thanks again to posters--and the extraordinarily witty government official in Appenzell-Ausserrhoden--who helped prevent that!)

I exchanged instant messages with him a couple of times. He was extremely hopeful that German universities would accept a SRU degree, his premise being that Germans applied the criterion "recognition by the home country's Ministry of Education" in a slavishly literal way.

 

Until recently, I worked at an automaker which merged with a German automaker. The Germans are very big on degrees, many of the US people had been factory workers who were promoted from within. (In many cases by being related to someone in Management.) Suddenly, everyone seemed to be getting degrees. People who couldn't compose a sentence at high school level were addressing themselves as "Doctor" or IMO better: "Professor" Apparently German management accepts SRU degrees.
